Throughout my career I wore different uniforms, each carrying responsibility and privilege. Yet I came to discover that our deepest identity is not found in rank, position or profession, but in the grace of God.

My hope is that Beyond the Uniform will encourage readers who have served their country, their communities or their families, and who may now be asking what comes next. It is a story of hope, second chances and discovering that no life is beyond redemption.

I believe the themes of service, integrity, perseverance and faith will resonate with veterans, serving personnel, churches and community groups alike.

Leadership brought new challenges.

I was trusted with responsibility before I fully understood the weight of it. I learned that leadership is not simply about giving instructions or achieving objectives. It is about people. It is about trust. It is about recognising that those we lead are not merely resources to accomplish a task, but individuals whose lives and futures are affected by our decisions.

I wanted to become a good leader.

But becoming a good leader required confronting the parts of myself I would rather ignore.
